UNIFEM’s Regional Strategies on Women and Trade through Policy Dialogue is an ongoing series of conferences, held in different regions with the aim of empowering women to develop regional strategies on women and trade. The following meetings have been held:
- In India (1995) for the countries belonging to the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), a regional grouping that includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka
- In Brazil (1995) for the countries belonging to MERCOSUR, the Southern Cone Common Market of South America, a regional grouping that includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay
- In Zimbabwe (1995) for the countries belonging to the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), a regional grouping that includes Angola, Burundi, Comoros, D. R. Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe
- In Thailand (1996) for the countries belonging to the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), a regional grouping that includes Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam
Other regional meetings are planned by UNIFEM for:
- the Pacific and Caribbean countries
- NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), a regional grouping that includes Canada, Mexico and USA
- the West African Countries of ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) is a regional grouping that includes Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.
