UNIFEM 30th Anniversary Gala Dinner – Global Championship Award Presentation

By Nicole Kidman AC, UNIFEM Goodwill Ambassador

Date: 13 May 2006

Occasion: UNIFEM 30th Anniversary Gala Dinner, Hilton New York, 13 May 2006.

It is certainly clear to me why UNIFEM wanted to present its inaugural Global Championship Award to Terry Lundgren. Becoming a champion for an issue requires taking risks, changing definitions, breaking new ground and having a vision. Terry's vision is opening a global market for women. It is stirring the economic pot, bringing the work of these skilled weavers to the attention of consumers in New York and, via the Internet, consumers everywhere.

Let's not think that making this project economically successful is easy, because it is not. But with Terry's commitment and the wholehearted support of Macy's, of groups and individuals in Rwanda, and of UNIFEM, the Rwanda Path to Peace Partnership shows what a champion can do. Terry, you have our admiration, and our thanks.

As UNIFEM Goodwill Ambassador, it is my distinct pleasure to present Terry J. Lundgren with the first-ever UNFEM Global Champion Award.
