This thematic briefing has been organized by UNAIDS, UNDP and UNIFEM in commemoration of World AIDS Day 2007. It will discuss the interconnections between macroeconomics and feminization of HIV and AIDS and poverty. It will explore i) gender and macroeconomics from the point of view of the social costs (time burden, energy, etc.), the economic cost (financial burden) and opportunity cost that women pay in the context of accelerated-growth macroeconomic policies and HIV and AIDS; and ii) policy issues that are relevant for monitoring economic reforms and accountability in addressing HIV and AIDS among women and girls.
