This panel discussion will take place during the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific's high level inter-governmental meeting to review regional implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (16-18 November). A thematic paper commissioned by UNIFEM on the status of implementation of CEDAW in the region will be presented. Panelists (representatives from government, the UN and civil society from across the region) will draw on various themes in the paper to discuss the specific successes and challenges in implementing CEDAW in their particular country or sub-region in Asia-Pacific. The anticipated outcome of this panel discussion is a comprehensive set of recommendations on how to improve the implementation of CEDAW in the Asia Pacific region, which will contribute to the overall review of progress in implementing the Beijing Platform for Action and will be taken to the Commission on the Status of Women in March 2010 for further action.
Attending will be participants to the ESCAP Beijing + 15 meeting, government and NGO partners, UN staff and development partners.
This event is by invitation only.
