This brochure introduces the EC/UN Partnership on Gender Equality for Development and Peace, a joint initiative of the European Commission (EC), the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC/ILO). The three-year programme (2007–2009) supports stronger action on gender equality and women’s empowerment in national development processes and in cooperation programmes supported by the EC. The programme also includes a focus on effective implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1325, adopted in 2000 to mainstream gender equality and women's empowerment in responses to conflict and post-conflict situations.
The programme is being implemented in 12 countries: Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Honduras, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, Suriname, and the Ukraine.
