Author/Editor(s): Jenny Drezin

We know that one picture speaks a thousand words. Media, in turn, can be a powerful partner for transformation. Targeted media touch the heart as well as the mind, have a profound impact on people and support and empower them to create change.

"Picturing a Life Free of Violence" showcases a wealth and variety of media and communications strategies and materials used around the world to end violence against women. A collaboration between UNIFEM and the Media Materials Clearinghouse of the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, the publication highlights materials and campaigns, providing descriptions of innovative communication methods specific to domestic violence, sexual assault and harassment, harmful traditional practices, trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, and HIV/AIDS.

Posters are wide-reaching and the possible locations for public display are many. "Picturing a Life Free of Violence" includes culturally appropriate variations of posters for a variety of cultures.

"Picturing a Life Free of Violence" is our intention to facilitate information sharing between organizations working to end violence against women, so that strong and effective strategies can be replicated in other contexts.
