For 10 years, the Beijing Platform for Action has served as a model and a road map showing the way to women's equality and empowerment. Since 1995 regional authorities, national and local governments, NGOs and other members of civil society have developed innovative methods for implementing the strategic objectives of the Platform and have sought to ensure that women's rights remain at the forefront of all international endeavours.
This report documents the work of various multilateral and bilateral donors in Africa to meet the goals of Beijing. It describes efforts to meet the strategic objectives of all 12 areas of concern in the Platform, offers lessons learned that will be of value in the future, and identifies the challenges that remain. It also provides examples of initiatives from which partners can learn and share experiences for a more coordinated effort as we move beyond Beijing+10.
