    The Big Picture: Macroeconomics, Women and HIV/AIDS (Video, 2009). This documentary argues that economic policy plays an integral role in responding to the needs of women infected with and affected by the HIV and AIDS pandemic. It explores the way in which an enabling environment could be fostered with policy instruments that respond to challenges faced by women, especially those living in poverty. It particularly focuses on women and girls who lack education, have limited or no access to healthcare, or live in conflict zones, but also looks at some of actions already taking place at the grassroots and government levels. more

    Rwanda: Army and Police Take Action to Fight Violence against Women (Video, 2009). In 2007, the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) placed sexual and gender-based violence as a major threat to its national security. Partnering with UNIFEM, the RDF launched a campaign to help and respond to violence against women, drawing on a successful initiative of the Rwandan police that, in 2005, opened a special office to deal with gender-based violence. more
  • Gender-Responsive Budgeting: Bolivia
    Gender-Responsive Budgeting: Bolivia (Video, 2008). As part of its gender-responsive budgeting project, UNIFEM developed and sponsored workshops in Cochabamba, Bolivia, to teach women how to seek government funding for projects that can benefit them. Women were educated on the city budget: where government money comes from, how it is distributed, and what strategies to use in applying for funds. The workshops helped the women envision what they can do for themselves, and helped them better understand what kinds of demands they can make on their own government. more

In Morocco, UNIFEM has worked with the government to create a more tailored approach in which budgeting can have a more effective and immediate impact. As this documentary illustrates, when the needs of women living in a particular geographical and cultural context are addressed, the entire community benefits. more
