FYR Macedonia | 2007-11-19 – 2007-11-25
Media Campaign on Violence against Women. On the occasion of the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women, UNDP and UNCT fYR Macedonia have organized a media campaign addressing violence against women. A 60 seconds video spot produced by UNIFEM is being broadcast nationwide on five Macedonian TV channels (including Roma TV station BTR National) for 7 days. Sponsors: UNDP, UNIFEM, UNCT Macedonia. Round Table: Challenges of Crisis Centres. The round table gathered governmental, non-governmental and mass media representatives to discuss challenging issues and proposed solutions to protect women and children's rights and to identify the role of each partner in the development of an anti-violence culture in society. Participants also discussed what steps to follow to present recommendations regarding the Draft Law on Domestic Violence in Kazakhstan. Location: Almaty. Consultation: Anti-Violence Measures. A consultation meeting was organized in Kyrgyzstan with the participation of law enforcement authorities of the Kyrgyz Republic, Austrian police, UN Gender Theme Group, OSCE to share experiences on preventive anti-violence measures. Launch of the Campaign "You Have Right!". The slogan of the campaign is "You Have Right! Demand Protection from Domestic Violence," and the purpose is to encourage victims to ask for efficiency and quality from the system for protection from Domestic Violence, by providing them information (symbolically presented as "doors to the system"). This campaign is part of the UN Trust Fund project titled "Establishing Unified and Positive Practices in Combating Domestic Violence in fYR Macedonia." Location: City Square, Skopje. Distribution of Leaflets on Domestic Violence. 5,000 leaflets against domestic violence will be distributed to social service centres. Bulgaria | 2007-11-25
Press Conference: Launch of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence Campaign. BGRF will use the poster (attached) to present the UN TF project focusing on implementation of the Bulgarian Domestic Violence law as well as to present joint actions for sustainability. BGRF will present the first monitoring results from the TF project and launch the independent Observatory on VAW under the project. Location: Sofia. Bulgaria | 2007-11-30
Seminar: Implementation of the Bulgarian Law on Protection against Domestic Violence. Seminar on the BGRF project, "Coordinated Efforts towards Building an Enabling Environment for Sustainable and Effective Implementation of the Bulgarian Law on Protection against Domestic Violence," with special focus on accountability of national bodies and sustainability of NGO work.
