16 Days Campaign to End Violence against Women . A number of events will be held during the 16 Days to create awareness among decision makers, service providers and the public at-large in all governorates in Jordan on the issue of violence against women and the girl-child. There will be awareness-raising workshops to focus the problem of violence against women and document what has been achieved in this regard and track challenges and opportunities for action. Seminar: Violence against Women in Jordan. This seminar is meant to increase awareness and break the taboo behind crimes of honour, domestic violence, sexual harassment, and rape, reiterating that preventive, remedial and legal measures need to be taken to support victims and stop injustice. It will also present results of UNIFEM's field study on "Crimes Committed against Women in Jordan, 2000-2003." Location: Sheraton Hotel, Amman. Sponsors: Organized by UNIFEM. Symposium: Towards a World Free of Violence. A symposium to discuss some of the pressing issues regarding women's rights in Syria today. Three papers will be presented and followed by discussion: "Role of Law in Protecting Women from Violence"; "The Ministry of the Interior's Pioneer Project for Combating Domestic Violence"; "Violence against Women in the Golan Heights."
