UNIFEM and the Financial Crisis
The United Nations is convening a three-day summit of world leaders on 24–26 June 2009 to assess the worst global economic downturn since the Great Depression. The aim is to identify emergency and long-term responses to mitigate the impact of the crisis, especially on vulnerable populations, and initiate a needed dialogue on the transformation of the international financial architecture, taking into account the needs and concerns of all Member States.
UNIFEM will be co-sponsoring the following events during the summit:
- 24 June: Making Economic Stimulus Packages Work for Women
- 26 June: Breakfast Dialogue on the Economic Crisis: Economic Recovery and Sustainable Development with Gender Equality
- 29 June: Seminar: Analysing the Current Economic Crisis and Gender Perspectives in Latin America
