This year marks the 10th anniversary of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. UNIFEM participates in commemorating the day with a number of activities.
UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women Announces Grantees
The UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women announced the recipients of its 2009 grant awards cycle. A total of US$10.5 million was awarded to 13 initiatives in 18 countries and territories. read more »

Commemoration Event at UN Headquarters
The United Nations is commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women with a high-level event at UN headquarters in New York. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will launch a Network of Men Leaders to end violence against women, and a roundtable discussion will tackle the challenge of involving men and boys in combatting this scourge that plagues up to 70 percent of women and girls in their lifetime. read more »

UNiTE Campaign Launch in Latin America
Under the slogan “Latin America: UNiTE to End Violence against Women,”
the United Nations is launching UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s multiyear,
global campaign to combat violence against women and girls at the regional
level in Latin America. A rich programme of events will mark the launch
in Guatemala City, as well as in a number of other countries in the region.
