Rangina Hamidi recognized as a CNN Hero

December 10, 2007 | Bpeace new window

Dear Bpeace members and friends:

We need your help to make 2008 as amazing a year as 2007. Help us keep critical momentum going in Afghanistan and further the progress of a peaceful Rwanda.

Rangina Hamidi, our Afghan Associate who employs 450 home-bound women, was recognized as a CNN Hero last week, one of 18 honored from more than 7,000 nominees. You can see video on her here new. (Fast forward to timestamp 6:23.)

With Bpeace's help:

* Eight Afghan women took the unprecedented move of partnering to open the first jointly owned women's retail store selling only Afghan-made products.
* Four Rwandan beauty salon owners joined forces to build the first-ever beauty vocational school in their country. And they are doing so by overcoming tribal differences and prejudices.
* A Kabul pre-school for 500 children is near completion, so that their mothers can work--an economic and cultural revolution.
* The Bpeace Economic Development Fund made $170,000 in borrowing power available to Rwandan businesswomen who have trouble accessing expansion capital.

All of this would not be possible without the support of our members and friends. Your gift to the Annual Appeal, in any amount, makes a difference! We have already heard from many of you and are more than halfway toward our goal!

Please donate online here new, or by sending a check to:

And please forward this appeal to your friends who are also considering how to allocate their charitable giving this holiday season. Tell them you why you support Bpeace with your time and/or money.

On behalf of our Associates in Afghanistan and Rwanda and our more than 200 volunteers, thank you for your continued support and best happy and healthy holiday wishes.
